Frames Between Fares Show Mentioned in The Roanoke Times

Ed Gallucci was mentioned in the Roanoke Times in an article by Mike Allen for his upcoming solo show at the O. Winston Link Museum.

“Recent Roanoke transplant Ed Gallucci arrives with rock ‘n’ roll history on his resume: He was the first photographer ever to take pictures of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band for a magazine.

At the time, he worked as a New York cabbie, snapping pictures when his job gave him the chance.

His solo show, “Frames Between Fares,” is comprised of photos selected from his taxi-driving days in the early 1970s. It opens with a 6 p.m. reception July 25 at the O. Winston Link Museum in Roanoke.”

Join the O. Winston Link Museum on July 25th @ 6pm for an exciting exhibition by photographer Ed Gallucci!

“Ed Gallucci is a photographer with 45 years of experience. His portraits of musicians and celebrities have been published in Crawdaddy, Rolling Stone, Playboy, and Penthouse, and his editorial photographs have appeared in Business Week, Fortune, US News & World Report, Discover, New York Magazine, Psychology Today and Science magazines, as well as on more than 40 covers of Newsweek.

He is the photographic author of “Hard Corps” collaborating with author Michael Grumley, published by E.P. Dutton in 1977. Gallucci has won over 100 advertising industry awards, including five Andys and two Clios. Thousands of his photographs have appeared on print ads, billboards, book covers, annual reports, catalogs, and brochures.

His works, among them a portrait of Springsteen, are in the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art permanent photography collection in Kansas City, Missouri. Ed is one of the first photographers to photograph a young Bruce Springsteen and the future E Street Band for editorial use. The Bruce Springsteen photographs were featured in a one-man show, “The Crawdaddy Years and Beyond”, at Monmouth University October 2012. Monmouth University is home of the Bruce Springsteen library where 40 of Ed’s photographs are part of their permanent collection. Ed has lectured on the art of photography at Monmouth University, Montclair State University and Pratt Institute. Filling a life long dream 6 of Ed’s B&W photographs were made part of the Brooklyn Museum’s permanent collection in October of 2013.

Gallucci was born and raised in Park Slope Brooklyn, graduated high school in 1964 Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, studied graphic design and has a BFA in photography from the Kansas City Art Institute 1967-2013. He founded Gallucci Studio, Inc. in New York City in 1978, Sun Dog Ltd in 1994, Gallucci Imaging, Inc. in New Jersey 1999.

Grammy Museum Chooses Ed Gallucci Bruce Springsteen Photographs for National Show

Ed Gallucci Photography is excited to announce that photos from his Bruce Springsteen collection are currently being chosen by the Grammy Museum of Los Angeles for a traveling show documenting the early days of Bruce Springsteen’s career. The traveling show will open in the Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma on April 29th of 2014 and will be displayed in museums throughout the country for two years. We will post the full show schedule as soon as it is available.

Ed was the earliest photographer to document Bruce Springsteen in his legendary musical career. Through documentation like Ed’s photographs, we are able to see how this music icon developed his signature musical style. Ed’s photos were taken in 1972, the same year that Bruce signed with Columbia Records. With this record deal, Bruce started gathering his New Jersey based colleagues who would later become the famous E Street Band. This particular year was the turning point where Bruce Springsteen moved from the local New Jersey music scene to the national spotlight, and Ed Gallucci was there to document it. This show also features the work of four other photographers that documented Bruce, including Pamela Springsteen, Frank Stefanko, Eric Meola, and Danny Clinch.

Ed Gallucci Accepted Into The Brooklyn Museum of Art’s Permanent Collection

Ed Gallucci Photography is proud to announce the addition of six of Ed’s photographs into the permanent collection of the prestigious Brooklyn Museum of Art. For one hundred eighteen years, the Brooklyn Museum has been assembling a premier collection of international art. Ed’s photographs in the Brooklyn Museum will be alongside the work of Edward Hopper, Norman Rockwell, Winslow Homer, Edgar Degas, Georgia O’Keeffe, and many more historic artists.

Throughout his career, Ed’s focus on both everyday life in the United States as well as his candid documentation of pop cultural icons has generated a collection of photographs that give insight into the past forty years of American history. With photography of musical icons such as Bruce Springsteen, Chicago, Jerry Garcia, and Rod Stewart as well as celebrities like Muhammad Ali, Woody Allen, and Robert Altman; Ed Gallucci has placed himself right into the pulse of our recent culture.

He talks about what sparked his great photography career, working with Crawdaddy Magazine and taking photos of the young Bruce Springsteen.
